D. Gimarino ES launches own radio station

When school head Jerome Reynes found out that the learners at D. Gimarino Elementary School in Kayupo, Kiamba, Sarangani Province found it difficult to answer their self-learning modules, he began his quest for a solution.

Among the learning delivery modalities that the Department of Education recommends, he decided that radio-based instruction is the most doable.

He sought the help of the local government through the Sangguniang Barangay of Kayupo, the Parent-Teacher Association, and private individuals and organizations to help him put up the radio station.

Reynes also consulted with the National Telecommunications Commission prior to establishing the school.

The 38th Infantry Battalion also extended help in constructing a radio booth.

Key Radio 105.5 Megahertz FM was launched on Friday, January 15, 2021.

According to Reynes, the reason he named the station, Key Radio is because the radio station will be the key unlocking the difficulties they are experiencing in making sure that learning continues in the midst of this pandemic.

In addition, once the radio station operates, they will no longer be printing the copious modules but would shift to using learning activity sheets as indicated in their transition plan.

Teachers at D. Gimarino ES went through training on radio scriptwriting and on effective delivery of radio-based instruction.

Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo expressed his admiration for the school's innovative approach in addressing the challenges of new normal education.
