Provincial Administrator Atty. Ryan Jay Ramos led the turnover of the antennas amounting to Php 150,000.00 during the flag-raising ceremony at the provincial capitol, Alabel, Sarangani Province.

DepEd Sarangani was represented by Education Program Supervisor Judith B. Alba and Information Technology Officer Roy J. Detoyato, lead implementers of the project.

LRonWHEeLS stands for Learning Resources on WiFi Hub for Expanded e-Learning in Sarangani, an innovation of the Division of Sarangani during the pandemic when learners could not attend classes in school.

It uses a local wireless network to connect learners’ gadgets to a learning management system.

LRonWHEeLS is being implemented in over 50 schools in the Division of Sarangani and has been replicated in other provinces and cities in the country like Batangas, Baguio City, Zamboanga Sibugay, Palawan, Bohol, and South Cotabato.

The DepEd Central Office awarded said innovation as Best Educational Technology Innovation during the 2022 DepEd EdTech Awards last month.

Continued Implementation

The antennas donated by LGU Sarangani will be used for the continuous implementation of the project even with the foreseen resumption of face-to-face classes.

“We see LRonWHEeLS as an opportunity for our learners even in far-flung schools to experience technology-aided learning,” Detoyato said.

“We imagine it being used in a blended learning modality, where learners learn in both face-to-face and distance learning situations,” he added.

The installation of LRonWHEeLS continues in different schools in the division, with the most recent being in North Glan 1 district, where 11 schools embraced the project.

Developing and Enhancing Interactive Content

Meanwhile, the Curriculum Implementation Division led by Chief Supervisor Donna S. Panes is working on the development of interactive content for LRonWHEeLS.

Over 100 content writers in different subject areas gathered at Tierra Montana Hotel on June 13-15 for the Development of Non-Print Materials.

Edward Ryan Gulam, Learning Resources Management Service Alternate Coordinator, sees to it that the developed materials abide by the standards set by the DepEd Central Office.

The output of the workshop will be digitized and made interactive by another set of content developers for the LRonWHEeLS and will undergo quality assurance before distribution.

“We are working hard so that by the opening of the school year 2022-2023, all LRonWHEeLS implementing schools will be able to use the enhanced learning materials,” Panes said.
